Goldsboro Woman Charged With Insurance Fraud

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced Tuesday the arrest of Shavon Nicole Green, 34, Fedelon Trail, Goldsboro. Green was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Green of providing National General Insurance Co. the wrong date that her vehicle was damaged.

According to the arrest warrant, the damage occurred after Green took out the automobile insurance policy.

The offense occurred on May 13.

Green was arrested on June 16 and given a $5,000 unsecured bond.

“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime; we all pay for it through higher insurance premiums,” said Commissioner Causey. “Help us keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspected fraud.”

I’m confused…..wouldn’t it be a crime if the damage occurred BEFORE she got the insurance? Insurance always covers damage that occurs after the policy’s effective date. What am I missing??
