A routine traffic stop for a speeding violation led to the discovery of a half-pound of marijuana in a vehicle, according to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 12:30am Saturday, a SAFE Team deputy stopped a Buick for speeding on Highway 42 near Highway 50. The officer said he detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. During a search, a half-pound of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia was reportedly located. Deputies also impounded the vehicle.
Melkym Daiquan Darby, 26, of Raleigh was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Darby was given a $20,000 secured bond.
