A handcuffed suspect ran from a police officer outside the Smithfield Police Department on Tuesday.
Police had responded to Wal-Mart on North Brightleaf Boulevard after two suspects had allegedly tried to steal headphones and polo shirts valued at $196.20.
The suspects were detained and transported to the police department for processing. Police were getting 39 year-old Jonathan Henry Reese of Goldsboro out of a police car when he bolted from the officer. Reese who was handcuffed was immediately recaptured.
He was charged with resisting a public officer and larceny by defeating an anti-theft device. Bond was set at $50,000.
Joshua Reid Morlock, 25, of Goldsboro was charged with habitual larceny and trespassing. His bail was set at $21,000.
The stolen items were recovered.
