Homeless Couple Caught With Large Amount Of Illegal Narcotics, Report Says

A Willow Spring couple is in the Johnston County Jail after patrol deputies were dispatched to two different locations just hours apart.

Late Thursday night, deputies were dispatched to check on a suspicious vehicle on Highway 210 near I-40 outside of Benson. The vehicle left before officers arrived.

Just after midnight Friday morning, deputies received a report the same vehicle from the Highway 210 call was parked illegally in a handicapped parking at the Speedway at 5179 NC Highway 42 West, Garner in the Cleveland community and the two occupants were acting suspicious.

Deputies arrived and reportedly located Sabrina Lynn Spencer, 40, in the driver’s seat and Leroy Thomas Pelacio, 54, in the passenger seat. During the search of their car, officers allegedly found 81 grams of methamphetamine, 7 bags of heroin weighing a total of 19 grams, 9.5 bars of Xanax, and a large amount of Alprazolam. Combined, the narcotics had a potential street value in excess of $10,000.

A routine background check determine Pelacio was wanted on two warrants charging him with felony assault by strangulation and misdemeanor assault on a female from a August 17, 2021 incident on Dawn Street, Willow Spring. On that day, deputies responded to a domestic call at a home where Spencer reported Pelacio had assaulted her during a domestic incident and she sustained minor injuries.

Spencer and Pelacio, whose listed address was ‘homeless’, were both charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking opium or heroin, possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver a controlled substance, simple possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pelacio was served with the two outstanding arrest warrants for the domestic assault involving Spencer.

Spencer was held on a $130,000 secured bond. Pelacio was held on a $210,000 secured bond.
