Homeowner Seriously Injured In Freak Crash, Driver Flees

SELMA – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the driver of a pickup after he fled from the scene of a bizarre accident scene in the front yard of a home.

Around 11:25pm Thursday, 72 year-old Ubaldo Perez and his wife were in their home on Meadowbrook Lane when they heard a knock on the door.  Perez went to investigate and encountered a Hispanic male in the driveway driving a white 2000 Dodge Ram work truck. The driver claimed he was having mechanical issues with the pickup.

Perez began assisting the driver with his truck when it suddenly lunged forward, striking a parked vehicle and pinning Perez between the front of the truck and his home.

The unknown driver jumped and ran from the wrecked truck as Perez remained severely pinned.

Emergency personnel arrived and extricated Perez before he was rushed to WakeMed for treatment of broken bones and serious injuries.

Authorities said Perez and his wife did not know the suspect, who at last report has still not been located.  Their home also sustained structural damage.

Deputies seized the work truck the suspect was driving as part of the investigation.
