A homeowner was out-of-town Tuesday when his security camera sent him a notification that someone was at his residence. The victim watched on his phone as two suspects reportedly broke into a barn at his home on Smith Road, off Highway 210 west of Smithfield, and began loading up items into their vehicle.
The victim contacted the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and deputies quickly responded to the scene catching both suspects before they could leave.
Officers said the suspects had loaded up $1,750 in property including a backpack blower, handheld blower, and a pressure washer but were caught before they could the scene.
William Lester Denning, 41, of the 10000 block of Highway 301 South, Four Oaks and Marvin Wayne Holt, 57, of the 100 block of Hugh Drive, Smithfield were arrested. Holt complained of a medical issue and was transported to the hospital for evaluation before being taken to jail.
Both suspects were charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, felony possession of stolen property, and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods. Denning was held on a $65,000 bond. Holt’s bail was set at $60,000. The stolen property was returned to the owner.
