Honey Bun Burglar Arrested

A man who broke into a Johnston County grocery store last month stealing honey buns has been arrested.

Around 2:22am on September 14th, an intruder cut the wires to a surveillance camera and telephone, then broke into Mac’s General Merchandise at 4432 Highway 242 South of Benson.

That man has now been identified as Richard Edward Myers, 35, of the 4400 block of Wood’s Crossroads Road, Benson.

Myers allegedly stole $57 worth of honey buns, soft drinks and cigarettes before fleeing.

Myers was arrested at his home on Thursday after narcotics agents searched his property and allegedly found a syringe filled with suspected methamphetamine.

In addition to charges of felony breaking and entering and felony larceny, Myers was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The stolen honey buns were not recovered.
