A two vehicle collision sent one car off the roadway striking a home. Smithfield Police said the wreck occurred last Thursday, Sept. 17th at 10:20am on North Street at North Fourth Street.
According to an accident report, Ernestine Raiford Lowe, 74, of Smithfield was operating a 2002 GMC SUV and failed stop for a stop sign at the intersection. Her vehicle collided with a 2003 Ford car driven by Charles Dupree, 79, also of Smithfield in the intersection.
After the impact, the GMC ran off the roadway and struck the side of a home at 403 North Street. The homeowner was inside the residence but was not injured.
Lowe was transported to Johnston Medical Center for evaluation. She was cited by Officer L.G. Hufton for failure to stop at a stop sign.
Damage to the GMC was estimated at $4,000. Damage to the Ford was placed at $900. The home sustained approximately $2,000 in damages.
