I-40 Chase Starts In Johnston, Ends In Wake County

BENSON – One person was arrested following a two county high speed chase. Early Thursday morning, a Johnston County state trooper attempted to stop a car traveling 90 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 40 near Benson, but the driver sped off.

The 2:15am pursuit led troopers westbound into Wake County and eventually into the Raleigh city limits at speeds of up to 120 mph. The chase was ended in northeast Raleigh when a trooper used a PIT maneuver to stop the fleeing driver and his passenger.

The passenger fled but the driver was arrested after being tased.

The driver, who had a California address, was charged for possession of over 350 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and numerous traffic violations.

One patrol car was damaged in the process of stopping the pursuit.

There were no injuries.
