Impaired Driver Nearly Hit Patrol Car Head On, Police Say

A motorist who police said nearly hit a Selma patrol car head on is facing driving while impaired charges.

Around 10:00pm last Wednesday night, an officer was on patrol near Sellers and Waddell Streets when his cruiser was nearly hit head on by the driver of a red Honda Civic. The officer avoided being struck but in doing so lost sight of the vehicle.

A second officer spotted the vehicle a few minutes later on Massey Street near Highway 301 and conducted a traffic stop.

Police said the driver, Wendy Lynn Allen, 50, of Oliver Street, Selma was confused and asked several times why she had been pulled over.  Allen, who allegedly admitted to drinking “a few beers” failed a field sobriety test and later refused to submit to a breathalyzer test, according to reports.  A search warrant was obtained for a blood sample.

Allen was charged with DWI and given a $1,500 bond pending a March 14th court appearance.
