A law enforcement officer was nearly struck by a drunk driving suspect.
Around 2:30am Friday, a deputy sheriff had stopped for a red light at the intersection of Brightleaf Boulevard and Hospital Road. When the light turned green the officer began to enter the intersection, but stopped after spotting a car that failed to yield and ran through the red light.
The officer stopped the car and arrested the driver, Nancy Lacrisha Harrison, 34, of the 1700 block of Cleveland Road, Smithfield for driving while impaired. Harrison registered 0.14 on the Breathalyzer, which is above the legal limit of 0.08.
She was released on a $1,000 bond.
