An inmate booked into the Johnston County Jail on traffic charges is now charged with possessing a controlled substance.
Last Friday, 46 year-old Montgomery L. Davis of Durham was arrested by the NC Highway Patrol for driving while impaired, driving on a revoked license, and speeding.
While being processed into the Johnston County Jail, a small round bag reportedly fell out of Davis’ pants. Officers said Davis quickly grabbed the bag and placed it in his mouth. Officers immediately grabbed Davis and after a few moments was able to force him to spit out the contraband. The substance was later identified as 11 grams of suspected cocaine.
An EMS crew responded to the Johnston County Jail to check on Davis before he was processed on additional charges of felony possession of cocaine and felony possession of a controlled substance in jail or prison. His bond was also increased from $2,000 to $27,500.
