Inmate Charged With Malicious Conduct, Felony Assault

An inmate at the Johnston County Jail being held for detoxification is facing felony charges after an incident while behind bars.  Saturday morning, Feb. 22nd, Four Oaks Police transported Penny Lane Acree, 46, of Surles Road, Benson to the Johnston County Jail for detoxification.

Authorities said Acree was combative in the jail and had to been restrained.  At one point, Acree allegedly took off her sock and threw it at a detention officer.

Later, the inmate told a female officer she needed to go to the bathroom.  After the restraints were removed, Acree allegedly punched a 23 year-old female detention officer in the face with a closed fist.  The officer sustained injuries to her nose and lip and was left bloodied.

Acree was charged with malicious conduct by a prisoner and assault inflicting injury on a detention officer. She was held on a $100,000 bond.
