An inmate made an extremely short escape from custody inside a courtroom at the Johnston County Courthouse on Tuesday.
Kameron Scott Rogers, 28, of Castleberry Road, Clayton was in court making his first appearance on felony charges of obtaining property by false pretenses and felony possession of stolen goods for allegedly stealing jewelry from his girlfriend’s mother then pawning one of the rings, valued at $3,000, to a Clayton business.
During a courtroom recess, jailors were preparing to escort Rogers to a holding cell when he attempted to run.
Rogers was still wearing handcuffs and leg shackles when he fled. He was captured just feet outside the courtroom.
Rogers was charged with escaping from custody. His bond was increased from $50,000 to $60,000.
