A Benson man was jailed on a $120,000 bond following a chase around 11:30pm Saturday. A Johnston County Sheriff’s Office SAFE Team deputy was on patrol on Highway 42 and attempted to stop a 1994 Ford van as it turned onto Cleveland Road.
The driver reportedly failed to pull over and increased speeds up to 80 miles per hour. The chase turned onto McLemore Road and reached speeds up to 87mph. A short time later the driver attempted to make a sudden turn but instead drove off the roadway and collided with a small tree in the front yard of a home.
Deputies said the driver, Patrick Michael Faircloth, 20, of the 8300 block of Raleigh Road, Benson, attempted to flee on foot but was detained.
Faircloth was wanted at the time of the pursuit on a probation violation warrant.
Faircloth was charged with fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, speeding, driving on a revoked license, failure to stop for a red light, operating a vehicle with no insurance, fictitious registration, resisting a public officer and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
The Ford van he was driving was seized under the NC Run and You’re Done Law.
