JCSO: Driver Tosses Cocaine From Car During Traffic Stop

Johnston County SAFE Team deputies seized cocaine and an undisclosed amount of cash during a traffic stop on Wilder Road in northern Johnston County.  Around 8:00pm on Friday, August 7th a deputy was in the process of pulling over a car when the driver tossed a bag out the window.

The deputy detained the driver, 27 year-old Winfield Scott Chamberlin of E. Church Street, Smithfield, and then retrieved the a bag that had reportedly been thrown out of the vehicle.  Inside the bag, deputies said they found 17 smaller bags containing suspected crack cocaine.  Combined, the 17 bags contained approximately 3.3 grams of cocaine.  Deputies also seized an undisclosed amount of US currency located inside the car.

Chamberlin was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine. He was held in the Johnston County Jail on a $20,000 secured bond.
