JCSO: DWI Suspect Found Passed Out With Infant In Vehicle

ANGIER – A DWI suspect is off the street after her arrest by a Johnston County deputy.  Around 10:30pm Saturday, an officer was on patrol on Highway 210 at Plainview Church Road near the Harnett County line when he spotted a vehicle stopped at a stop sign at the intersection.

The officer noticed the driver appeared to be passed out behind the wheel.  Authorities said 27 year-old Amber Elizabeth Wilkins of Wallace Drive, Benson was under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested for driving while impaired. She registered 0.20 on the Breathalyzer, more than double the legal limit of 0.08.  An infant was also located in the vehicle.  The baby was not harmed.

Wilkins was charged with DWI and misdemeanor child abuse. She was taken before a criminal magistrate and held on a $5,000 secured bond.
