JCSO: Man Caught With Drugs At Checkpoint And In Jail

A Johnston County man arrested on four drug charges at a license checkpoint and had a fifth charge added after he arrived at jail.

SAFE Team deputies were conducted a random checkpoint around 2:00pm Tuesday on Raleigh Road near Benson when a Chevy pickup truck pulled up and stopped.  Deputies said they detected an odor of marijuana coming from the cab of the truck.  During a search of the vehicle, 12 small baggies of suspected marijuana, a small amount of methamphetamine, Xanax, and drug paraphernalia were allegedly found in the possession of a passenger.

Michael Trism Willis, 24, of the 11400 block of Highway 96 South, Dunn was taken into custody. He was charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver marijuana, two misdemeanor counts of simple possession of a controlled substance and a single count of possessing drug paraphernalia.  A magistrate set his bail at $11,000 and he was sent to the Johnston County Jail for processing.

While being booked into jail, a detention employee allegedly found Alprazolam in Willis’ possession.   Willis was subsequently charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in jail.  His bond was increased an additional $30,000 to $41,000.
