A Johnston County man was arrested after he reportedly led law enforcement officers on a high speed chase along Highway 70. It started just before 8:00pm Tuesday on Highway 70 Business West near Clayton.
A SAFE Team deputy was on routine patrol when he spotted a motorcycle operating recklessly and also driving a short distance with the front wheel raised off the ground. The officer attempted to stop the motorcycle but the operator accelerated and quickly reached speeds of 113 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. When the motorcyclist began to encounter heavy, slow-moving traffic he pulled onto the shoulder and surrendered.
Elias Emanuel Adams, 25, of Westbrook Lane, Clayton was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, reckless driving to endanger, aggressive driving, speeding, driving without a license, possession of up to 1/2 ounce of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
The motorcycle was seized under the NC Run and Your Done Law. Adams was given a $25,000 secured bond on the charges.
