Johnston County Road Will Temporarily Close For Highway 42 Widening

Closure will last about three months

CLAYTON – Tuscan Ridge Way will close Monday at NC Highway 42 East to allow a state contractor to continue widening and improving the Johnston County highway.

The N.C. Department of Transportation contractor plans to close the road at its highway intersection beginning around 8 a.m. on Aug. 10. The contractor anticipates reopening the road in about three months.

In the meantime, drivers will take a short detour on Verona Drive in the Tuscany subdivision to access N.C. 42.

Drivers should be alert and pay attention for construction workers in this vicinity.

Construction began in late 2018 after the NCDOT awarded a $58.7 million contract to widen the congested two-lane highway to four lanes with a raised median and several new traffic signals between Glen Laurel Road and Buffalo Road east of Clayton. The improvements will reduce congestion, improve safety and better accommodate population growth. The new lanes are expected to open by the fall of 2022.
