Johnston County School Principal Arrested For Sexual Assault

Suspended With Pay Following Arrest, Then Resigns Effective Immediately

A Johnston County school principal was arrested Wednesday afternoon for sexual assault. Glendale-Kenly Elementary School Principal Daniel Cole Yarborough was arrested at his Clayton-area home around 3:00pm today.

On May 22, 2021, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on River Knoll Drive in the River Knoll subdivision off Vinson Road near Clayton for a reported sexual assault. Through the investigation it was discovered Daniel Yarborough, 33, of River Knoll Drive, Clayton had allegedly sexually assaulted a 31 year-old man who lives nearby. It is alleged the assault occurred at the home of the victim.

Yarborough was arrested by sheriff’s detectives without incident and transported to the Johnston County Jail. Yarborough has been charged with felonious second-degree forcible sex offense. He is being held at the Johnston County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities declined to release any additional details.

According to the Johnston County Public Schools website, Yarborough has served as the principal at Glendale-Kenly Elementary since July 2017. The link to Mr. Yarborough’s information was removed a short time after his arrest and resignation.

In a statement from JCPS Superintendent Dr. Eric Bracy, “Mr. Cole Yarborough was suspended with pay immediately after the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office notified JCPS of his arrest. Mr. Yarborough has subsequently resigned from employment with the Johnston County Public Schools effective immediately.”

  1. Here is another example of the JCPS at its finest. Folks this is what we do know, can you imagine all the stuff we don’t know? Have to wonder if any other victims will becoming forward? Hopefully none will be any students?

  2. This is NOT an example of JCPS finest!! I work with the finest. We are protectors, not exploiters! I resent that comment!

  3. Unless you know personally that this man is guilty, then I think we should ALL wait until more information comes out before we throw him under the bus. Its funny how you are guilty now days just because someone said you did something. We have NO idea what happened. This Principal could be a horrible person and deserve what he is getting. However he could also be innocent and be in this situation because someone is not telling the truth. Stop rushing to judgement until ALL details are released. And we have some VERY respectable men and woman working for JCPS system. We cant group ALL JCPS employees in a category because of one person.
