Johnston County deputies made one of the largest drug busts in department history over-the-weekend during a routine traffic stop.
A deputy sheriff pulled over a tractor trailer in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Kenly Sunday afternoon. The truck was hauling a load of produce.
After being given permission to search the truck, 50 kilos (approximately 110 pounds) of cocaine were found concealed in brown boxes inside the load of produce. The cocaine had an estimated street value of $5 million.
Two men from Miami, Florida were in the truck and were arrested on multiple counts of cocaine trafficking.
Eugenio Carlos Alfonso, 48, and Julio Cesar Rodriguez, 49, were confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $750,000 bond each.
