An investigation that began nearly two years ago resulted in the arrest today (Monday) of a Johnston County man on child sexual assault charges in Wayne County.
Goldsboro Police said a complaint was filed by an adult victim in October 2017. The victim said that she had been sexually assaulted by the suspect, Bronnie Edwards, when she was a juvenile and between the ages of 11 and 16. Detectives launched an investigation and information was gathered that was turned over to the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office for review.
On June 3, 2019, a True Bill of Indictment was granted and an Order for Arrest was issued for Edwards, a 64 year-old Smithfield resident.
Edwards turned himself in today at the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office and was formerly served with 3 warrants for indecent liberties with a child – lewd and lascivious act. Edwards was given a $25,000 secured bond pending a first court appearance on June 11th.
