Juvenile Charged With Killing Dunn Store Clerk

DUNN – Dunn Police have arrested a 16 year-old suspect in the murder of a convenience store clerk.

Police officers responded to a 911 call at 10:54pm Wednesday at the Family Mart, also known as “Franks”, located at 610 E. Broad Street. Officers found the victim, Nasi Azzan, injured on the floor behind the counter.

EMS arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and pronounced Azzan deceased.

Police Chief Cary Jackson said surveillance video obtained at the business showed the suspect wearing dark clothing enter the business. His face was concealing with a mask.

A Harnett County Sheriff’s Office K-9 did not lead officers to the suspect but did locate potential evidence in the vicinity of the crime scene.

On Thursday, Chief Jackson announced the arrest of the juvenile male suspect. The juvenile is charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and larceny of a firearm. He is being held in a secure custody facility.

“I would like to thank our Investigators for their hard work on this case. This kind of act against our citizens is senseless and we will continue to work diligently to remove violent offenders out of our community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Azzan’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Chief Jackson said.
