K-9 Boone Helps Catch Larceny Suspect

BENSON – Johnston County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Boone is being credited with the capture a larceny suspect found hiding in the crawlspace of a home under construction.

Around 2:51am Sunday, March 6th deputies were called to a larceny in progress at a construction site on Old Barbour Road. Officers arrived and located a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup loaded with construction materials, however no one was around the truck. K-9 Boone located the suspect hiding in the crawlspace.

Randolph Sommers Mason Jr., age 60, of the 3100 block of NC Highway 96 South, Four Oaks was charged with felony possession of stolen property from a construction site, felony larceny, first degree trespassing, and resisting a public officer. Mason was held in the Johnston County Jail on a $45,000 secured bond.

$2,048 in construction materials in the pickup was returned to the owner. The pickup was towed from the scene.
