Lillington Driver License Office To Close Until Further Notice

Closure due to insufficient staffing

HARNETT COUNTY – The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ driver license office in Lillington will be closed until further notice beginning Monday, Sept. 23 due to a staff shortage. The Lillington office had been accepting only walk-in customers with no appointments.

DMV remains actively engaged in the hiring and training of new driver license examiners throughout the state. The process to onboard a new examiner includes five weeks of classroom training.

Meanwhile, customers in Harnett County and the surrounding area can schedule appointments with or visit the following nearby driver license offices:

  • Erwin, 125 W. Jackson Blvd.
  • Sanford, 2210 Carthage St.
  • Smithfield, 3783 U.S. Highway 301 South
  • Fayetteville West, 831 Elm St.

Each driver license office accepts appointments Monday-Friday from opening to noon, and accepts walk-in customers from 12-5 p.m. Customers can schedule appointments at skiptheline.ncdot.gov.

  1. i am calling bs on this from DMV. Are they saying that they cant find anyone to work with the number of people that dont have jobs? why is the closure indefinite when they can reopen after 5 weeks of training? Why can they not hire workers? Are the wages fair? is college required? what about the people that are retired that want something part time? just seems strange they are putting a hardship or disadvantage to the customers of DMV by saying they are short staffed without a plan.

  2. of course, let’s overwork our other offices more than they already are! Wait time in
Smithfield can at times be long, as well as the line out the door. No wonder no one
    wants that job.

  3. NCDMV is the mosr underpaid government agency and they are the ones that have to deal with the most BS! All of you complaining should try it for one day!
