An accused drunk driving suspect has been charged with several offenses after deputies with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to an unknown type call on Tuscan Ridge Way near Clayton around 1:30am Sunday. While officers were approaching the home they spotted a vehicle leaving. The officer told the driver to stop but instead the driver traveled some distance before eventually pulling over.
Authorities said 35 year-old Daniel Delafado Rivera of Dundalk, Maryland showed obvious signs of impairment. He later registered 0.16 on the Breathalyzer, double the legal limit of 0.08 in North Carolina.
Officers said a 10 year-old child was riding in the car with Rivera. Officials did not disclose the relationship between the suspect and child. The child was not physically harmed.
Rivera was charged with DWI, misdemeanor child abuse and resisting a public officer. Bond was set at $10,000.
