Man Accused Of Shoplifting From 6 Smithfield Businesses

A Willow Spring man was charged Monday after he was reportedly caught shoplifting $3,320.89 in items from six Smithfield businesses.

Security contacted Smithfield Police after employees at the Dress Barn, Coach Outlet, Lane Bryant, Christopher & Banks, Nike Factory Store and Aeropostale on Outlet Center Drive reported items were missing.

Police arrived and located the suspect’s vehicle in the Outlet Center parking lot and the stolen goods inside.

Police allege Larry Darnell Watson, 63, had stolen clothing, handbags and wallets from the six stores. Police Captain J. Grady said officers recovered additional property from their vehicle they believe may have come from other businesses. Police are trying to identify those stores.

Watson was charged with 6 counts of larceny and one counts of possession of stolen property.  He was booked into the Johnston County Jail under a $450,000 bond.  A second person allegedly with Watson, 54 year-old Angela Elaine Boyd of Willow Spring was cited for shoplifting from one business and released at the scene.
