Man Armed With Knife Robs Family Dollar Store

GOLDSBORO – 63 year-old man is accused of robbing a Family Dollar store using a large knife. On Thursday, February 3rd around 12:40pm, the Wayne County 911 Center received a call reporting the robbery at the Family Dollar at 3865 US 117 Alternate.

Kenneth Newkirk, whose address was listed as the streets of Goldsboro, allegedly went into the store and placed several items on the counter. Newkirk reportedly began yelling at the female store clerk and knocking over other items within the business.

Newkirk attempted to leave without paying for the items on the counter. The clerk then went to lock the door to prevent him from leaving.

Just before exiting the store, Newkirk pulled out a large knife, threatened the kill the female clerk, then began chasing her throughout the business. The clerk was able to run to the back of the store as Newkirk turned and took additional items and left on foot.

Responding Wayne County deputies located Newkirk nearby and took him into custody. A large knife he reportedly used was also located.

Newkirk was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and communicating threats. He was confined in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond.
