A Johnston County man is accused of exploiting an elderly woman while she was in the hospital.
The 76 year-old Clayton area resident fell last month fracturing her hip. She has been in the hospital ever since, unable to return home.
Johnston County deputies said 40 year-old Michael Jason Murray of Virginia Pines Drive, Clayton was somehow able to obtain the elderly victim’s credit card and make charges at numerous businesses in the Clayton and Garner areas including Wal-Mart, CVS, and Dollar General stores. A ring was also reported missing from the victim’s home address.
Murray was charged Sunday with exploiting the disabled/elderly and financial card fraud, both felonies. He was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $40,000 bond.
Investigators did not disclose the relationship between Murray and the victim but did indicate Monday that additional charges have not ruled out.
