Man Arrested For Habitual Impaired Driving

A Johnston County man has been arrested for habitual impaired driving following his latest DWI arrest.

On Tuesday, Smithfield Police stopped a vehicle on South Brightleaf Boulevard near S. 5th Street and arrested 31 year-old Christopher Antonio Surles of W. Waddell Street, Selma for driving while impaired.

Police Captain R. Sheppard said Surles later registered 0.14 on the Breathalyzer, above the legal limit of 0.08 in NC.

According to the NC Department of Public Safety website, Surles was convicted three previous times for driving while impaired following arrests in May 2010, September 2011 and August 2015.

Smithfield Police charged Surles with habitual impaired driving. He was placed in the Johnston County Jail under a $30,000 bond.
