Man Charged With Breaking Into Clayton Business

Clayton Police have charged a 58 year-old man with breaking into a downtown business. On Wednesday, April 21st around 5:00pm, police were dispatched to the 400 block of E. Main Street to a disturbance. Upon arriving at the address, officers encountered Anthony Carlton Hicks pushing a wheelbarrow containing miscellaneous items.

The reporting party advised Hicks was intoxicated and had been creating a disturbance within area businesses. Hicks was trespassed from the property and left the area.

Around 5:40pm, officers were dispatched back to the 400 block of E. Main Street after Hicks returning to the property. Officers assisted Hicks in gathering his belongings and escorted him off the property with a warning not to return.

At 7:20pm officers were dispatched again to the same area to a breaking and entering. Officers said the suspect entered the building by breaking through the garage door. Officers entered the building and found Hicks inside.

Officers took Hicks into custody and charged him with misdemeanor breaking and entering. Hicks was transported to the Johnston County Jail where he was placed under a $1,000 secured bond.
