Man Charged With Breaking Into Hurricane Damaged Home

Hurricane Matthew struck in October 2016 bringing flooding, high winds and damage to Coastal and Eastern North Carolina.

In Johnston County, dozens of homes were damaged.  One home on Highway 50 South near the Sampson County line was severely impacted and the homeowners are still in the process of trying to repair the extensive damage caused by the flood waters and wind.

On June 7th, the victims discovered their still-vacant house was burglarized and a dishwasher and stove were removed.  A side door to the home was damaged by the intruder.

Following an investigation, Johnston County sheriff’s detectives have charged 51 year-old James Madison Holt of the 7900 block of Strickland’s Crossroads Road, Four Oaks with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny.   Holt was booked into the Johnston County Jail under a $20,000 bond.
