Man Charged With Breaking Into Vacant Building

SMITHFIELD – A police officer on routine patrol spotted a business break-in and made an arrest.

Around 11:38pm Saturday, September 14, an officer was patrolling the N. Equity Drive area and discovered a vacant building had been forcibly entered. A suspect was located inside the building and arrested.

Police said it appears Perry Brooks Autry, 29, was homeless and had broken into the building to sleep. Autry was charged with breaking and entering.

Damage to an entry door was estimated at $1,500.

  1. This is why we need to move the homeless onto another area. Half the people on the street corners holing signs are not even homeless. This was a good one, a woman was playing a violine and it sounded so good, but the catch was, she was not playing. It was a recording in a speaker she had with her, and she was just pretending to play to get money. This is the truth. 80% of the people that say they are homeless are not. We have seen some of these people wearing new designer clothes and sneakers and oh yes, they have some nice cell phones. Please stop giving these people money.
