Man Charged With Stealing Johnston County Fire Department Radio

A suspect has been charged with stealing a two-way radio belonging to a Johnston County fire department.

Around 6:15pm Thursday, a resident on Tower Drive off County Line Road, Angier told authorities they saw a man break into their neighbor’s vehicle, a member of the West Johnson Fire Department, then walk back to a nearby home. During the break-in a portable two-way radio owned by the West Johnston Fire Department was stolen.

Johnston County deputies responded and located the stolen fire radio on a trampoline near the scene.

Jose Guadalupe Vargas, 41, of Coats Drive, Angier was located at a nearby home and taken into custody. While being detained, a small amount of suspected methamphetamine and a smoking pipe was reportedly found.

Vargas was charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on a $50,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Jail.

The stolen radio, valued at $2600, was returned to the fire department.

  1. That one radio could have been the difference between life and death. What is the matter with people? I have other words I would love to use but I know JOCO could not print it.
