A Smithfield man called his nephew recently to run a few errands Instead of running the errands the suspect allegedly stole $1,000 from his disabled uncle. Now, 29 year-old Brandon Lee Carter of S. Church Street, Kenly is facing criminal charges. (Carter also had a second address listed in Lucama.)
On April 12th, the 57 year-old victim said he contacted Carter to run the errands. He entrusted his nephew with his bank card to pay for the things he needed. Instead, Carter allegedly returned a few hours later without completing any of the errands. Later, the victim realized two $500 cash withdrawals had been made from his account, money Carter allegedly kept and never told his uncle about.
Carter was arrested April 19th by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and charged with two counts of misdemeanor larceny and one felony count of conspiracy to commit larceny. Carter was given a $2,500 secured bond pending an appearance in Johnston County Court.
