A Johnston County man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly attacked an EMS crew who responded to a call around midnight (Tuesday) on Government Road near Clayton.
A Johnston County EMS crew arrived on the scene and was checking on the condition of 48 year-old John Scott Dement of Indian Camp Road, Clayton when he reportedly assaulted two EMS workers causing injury. The EMS crew called for an emergency response from law enforcement.
Deputies arrived on the scene quickly and while attempting to detain Dement he began kicking at officers. He was eventually handcuffed, but then swung his hands at a deputies face causing injury to the officer.
Dement allegedly began spitting at officers who were still trying to detain him. After being placed in a patrol car, Dement allegedly began kicking a dash-mounted laptop computer causing $1,000 in damage to the equipment.
He was eventually restrained and transported to the Johnston County Jail where he was held Wednesday morning under a $150,000 bond. Among the charges Dement faces include two counts of assault causing physical injury on emergency personnel, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, resisting arrest and damage to property.
