Man Steals Hubcaps Off Unmarked Police Car

It only took a few minutes for the long arm of the law to catch a thief who had just stolen the hubcaps off an unmarked police car.

Around 4:30am Wednesday, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a concerned citizen in the Town of Micro that someone had just stolen the hubcaps off a Micro police car at the Micro Town Hall.

No Micro police officer was on duty at the time, so deputies responded to the Town Hall where the patrol car was parked.

Deputies said they found 49 year-old Sylvester Roy Dawes of Pittman Road, Micro walking nearby holding the police car hubcaps. When he saw deputies he reportedly dropped the hubcaps on the ground. He allegedly claimed he had found the hubcaps.

Dawes was charged with misdemeanor larceny and given a $2,000 secured bond.

A second person spotted by the eyewitness had already fled on foot before deputies arrived and could not be located.  The four hubcaps valued at $50 were returned to the police department.
