BENSON – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division has charged two Johnston County residents with methamphetamine trafficking.
On April 13th, the sheriff’s office was asked to assist the Johnston County Department of Social Services with a welfare check on small children at a home at 12606 Raleigh Road, Benson.
Deputies said they located 22 year-old Mary Jessica Barbee of Hinnant Edgerton Road, Kenly at the address. Officers received consent to search the home and allegedly located 148.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine with a street value of $14,840. Officers said they also located 3 grams of suspected marijuana, 3 smoking pipes, a digital scale, burnt tin foil and a ziplock bag with possible narcotic residue.
A second person, Dustin Randall Horton, 33, of 12606 Raleigh Road, Benson was not at home at the time. He was located on April 15th and arrested.
Barbee and Horton are both charged with trafficking methamphetamine, conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance.
Authorities did not release details about the DSS investigation but did indicate multiple narcotic items found in the home were accessible to the children.
