Two Smithfield women were arrested at a SAFE Team license checkpoint in Four Oaks after suspected methamphetamine with a potential street value of $4,070 was seized.
On May 14th, deputies set up a random checkpoint on Parker Road at Temple Street just outside the city limits of Four Oaks. A white pickup truck driven by 49 year-old Joy Creech Jones of JP Drive pulled up and stopped.
Detective Lt. Don Pate said SAFE Team officers became suspicious about the occupants and during a search located 37.1 grams of meth in Jones possession. A passenger, Jessica Leigh Ogus of Forbes Drive, allegedly had an additional 3.6 grams of meth. Combined the 40.7 grams of meth had a potential street value of $4,070.
Jones was charged with trafficking methamphetamines and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $225,000.
Ogus was charged with possession of a controlled substance, resisting a public officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bail was set at $20,000.
