Miss South Johnston High 2021

The Miss South Johnston High School pageant was held on July 29, 2021 at South Johnston High School. Reagan Whitley Vanek, a Junior at SJHS, was crowned the 33rd Miss South Johnston High School. She also was awarded the Talent Award and the Community Service Award. Reagan is the daughter of Brian & Rene’ Honeycutt of Benson and Rodney Vanek.

Grayson Johnson, a Senior at SJHS was first runner-up. She also won the Academic Achievement Award, Interview Award, and the People’s Choice Award. She is the daughter of Stanley and Dana Johnson.

Katie Lee, a Freshman at South Johnston was awarded the Congeniality Award. She is the daughter of Ashley & Vanecia Lee of Four Oaks. Alexa Lee also competed in the pageant. She is a Senior at SJHS and the daughter of Chris and Amber Lee of Newton Grove.

The pageant also saw the farewell to Miss South Johnston 2019-2021, Mary Scott Rhodes of Benson. She is the daughter of Scott and Mary Beth Rhodes. Her advice in her farewell to the next Miss South Johnston, “Take in every minute of this experience and enjoy it. After two years, it is very hard to believe that I am finally giving my title to another very lucky young woman. Always keep the Trojan spirit in your heart because there is no other school as great as South Johnston.”

Reagan not only is the 33rd Miss SJHS but her mother, Rene’ H. Honeycutt was the 5th Miss SJHS 1992. They are the first mother-daughter to ever win the title.

As Miss SJHS, Reagan wants to make a positive difference in her community with her platform, “Smiles for Miles.” Her main goal is to educate students and staff at South Johnston High School and its feeder schools about Oral Health and their overall well-being, overall health, and economic mobility. Reagan plans to hold multiple dental drives to collect necessities and deliver them to local feeder schools by visiting and teaching the students and staff the importance of oral health. Reagan will bring a mobile dental unit to South Johnston and feeder schools to give students an opportunity to have proper dental care.
