Mother, Daughter Accused Of Exploiting Money From Disabled Veteran

Two Johnston County women are accused by authorities of exploiting an elderly disabled veteran, in the process taking a large sum of money from the victim.

The incident was discovered by the Johnston County Department of Social Services Adult Protection Services Division and reported to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office who investigated and arrested the pair.

Investigators allege Denise Dawson Beasley, 51, and her daughter, Megan Christina Beasley, 27, of Willow Spring befriended the 79 year-old Smithfield man and within a two week period had stolen nearly $10,000 from his bank account.

Detectives said Denise and Megan Beasley used the money for their own personal gain and not for the care or any of the needs of the disabled man.

The women were arrested Sunday and charged with felonious exploitation of the disabled/elder trust.  Megan Beasley was given a $60,000 bond. Her mother, Denise Beasley, was given a $15,000 bond.
