A 28 year-old man and 40 year-old woman have been arrested for allegedly abusing a 13 year-old girl found naked and confused on Monday on Highway 55 near Seven Springs in Wayne County.
The young girl initially told responding officers she had been kidnapped. After speaking with Wayne County Sheriff Special Victims Unit investigators, the teen stated she had not been kidnapped. Authorities later determined she had been assaulted and abused by her mother and stepfather.
Ryan Hamilton Montague and Tehran Regina Richard, both of Seven Springs, were charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious physical injury. Both were given $5,000 bonds.
The teenager was treated at Wayne UNC Hospital before being placed in the custody of a family member for her safety. The Department of Social Services is also involved in the case.
Captain Shawn Harris said the investigation was still ongoing and due to the sensitive nature of the case no additional details about the incident are being released at this time.
