Mother’s Day Tragedy: Details Released In Clayton Murder, Suicide

A young mother was shot and killed during a Mother’s Day murder-suicide in the Clayton city limits. On Sunday at 9:53pm, Clayton Police responded to a 911 call at 120 Kennel Lane. Johnston County 911 Communications told police a woman, identified as Christina Marie Bueno, age 33, had called and requested law enforcement to respond to the residence because her husband, Jaime Fernando Bueno, age 35, had a gun and they were involved in a domestic dispute.

The 911 dispatcher heard gun shots while on the phone with Christina Bueno and the line disconnected. Clayton Police officers responded to the residence and made entry inside.

Officers found both Jaime and Christina Bueno deceased in their 6 year-old son’s bedroom. Both appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds. The 6 year-old son was found in the same bedroom as his parents and he was not physically harmed.

Investigators believe that Jaime and Christina Bueno got into an altercation and Jaime retrieved a pistol inside the home and shot Christina multiple times before he shot and killed himself.

Witnesses indicated that the couple had a history of domestic problems and Clayton Police responded to a domestic-related call involving the couple at the residence in 2019.

The 6 year-old was taken into custody by the Johnston County Department of Social Services. Police and social workers have been able to locate family members of Christina Bueno to take custody of the child.

The bodies were removed from the home today and transported to the medical examiner’s office. Authorities said Jaime Bueno was a member of the National Guard.
