Motorcycle Rider Critically Injured In Highway 70 Crash

Two people on a Harley Davidson three-wheeled motorcycle were injured, one critically, in a traffic accident Monday afternoon on Highway 70 Business in the Clayton city limits.

Clayton Police said Ronald Young of New Bern was traveling eastbound on Highway 70 on a tricycle style motorcycle in the left lane with his passenger, Gina Hanson. The motorcycle was traveling behind a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Traffic was moving at approximately 30mph and began to slow.

Police said Young failed to reduce speed and swerved and struck the rear left corner of the Jeep with the right rear tire of the motorcycle. The motorcycle ran off the road and went into the median and rolled over on top of Young and Hanson. They were both transported to Wake Med.

Hanson was treated and later released. Young remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
