New Smithfield Police Officer Takes Oath

The Smithfield Police Department has hired Jonathan “Blake” Joyner for the Patrol Division. Officer Joyner grew up in Clayton and graduated from Clayton High School. He attended UNC Pembroke and played baseball.

He later graduated from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Johnston Community College. On April 6th, he was officially sworn in by Mayor Andy Moore during the monthly town council meeting.

Officer Joyner told Johnston County Report, “I chose Smithfield PD because the department is very family oriented and I was welcomed with open arms when I showed up on the first day. Anything I need to better myself or do my job in a professional and courteous manner was provided to me in sufficient time.”

“I wanted to become a police officer to help Smithfield become a safe place to live for the community. I take pride in law enforcement and I know that it is a privilege to be able to come to work and do this job every day. I feel that the Smithfield Police Department will be an excellent place to learn and to grow as a Law Enforcement Officer and I look forward to the years to come.”

  1. GodSpeed. I really can’t understand why anyone would want to go into law enforcement these days. It is a very sad and dangerous time.

  2. Jonathan Joyner, Welcome to the Smithfield Police Department. Stay safe and prayers for you. Please don’t ever let people that think that police are no good discourage you from the reason you became a police officer and remember, you can make a difference in Smithfield.
