NEWTON GROVE – A Newton Grove police officer was involved in a shooting around 2:40pm Tuesday. It happened near Sam’s Circle Mart on Clinton Street in the Newton Grove city limits.
Preliminary reports indicate that the Newton Grove officer responded to a report of a female victim who had been kidnapped and raped. It was originally reported, the suspect was holding the victim against their will and was armed with a firearm.
The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances that led to the officer involved shooting. The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer involved shooting.
There was no immediate report on the condition of the suspect.
