NWS Confirms Monday Morning Twister In Coats

COATS – The National Weather Service in Raleigh confirmed a tornado touched down in Harnett County early Monday morning.

NWS Meteorologist James Danco told The Daily Record an EF0 tornado with 85 mph winds touched down 2 miles southwest of Coats around 7:21 a.m. He said the storm was on the ground for approximately two minutes leaving behind a path of moderate damage.

Danco said the storm was responsible for roof and siding damage to several homes. It’s also blamed for uprooting or snapping more than a dozen trees, knocking down at least two fences and destroying or turning over at least two outdoor sheds.

Short-term power outages were reported in the area and no one was injured.
