    Four Oaks, NC: Mr. Cecil Maurice Massengill, age 86, of Raleigh Road passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held 11:00AM-Friday, September 20, 2024 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Mr. Barry Barbour. The Massengill Family will be holding a private burial.

    Cecil was born on January 8, 1938 in Johnston County to the late Wade Hampton and Ora Irene Moore Massengill. He was preceded in death by his brother, Cyril Hampton Massengill. Cecil grew up and worked on his family farm growing tobacco, soy beans and corn. He also raised beef cattle and hogs during his time farming. Cecil always had a garden where he grew various types of vegetables to preserve his roots and farm heritage. He was employed for over 30 years with Gray and Creech, Inc. and retired as Vice President. Cecil served as a Deacon for Johnson Chapel PFWB Church in Benson and as the church treasurer until retiring in 2023. He held memberships in many local organizations in various roles serving the community such as Four Oaks Civitan’s, Benson American Legion Banner Post 109, and Past Chairman of Johnston County Democratic Party and was very active in many political campaigns. Cecil served the people of Johnston County faithfully as a Johnston County Commissioner from 1992 to 1996 and as the Johnston County Register of Deeds from 1999-2002. He served in the US Army signal corps.

    Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Willie Jean Massengill; son, Gordon D. Massengill of Wilmington and son, Jimmie M. Massengill, and wife Audrey of Four Oaks; grandchildren, Brittaney Bullins and husband, Charlie of Virginia Beach, Kathleen Matthews and husband, Marchie of Dunn, Jimmie M. Massengill, Jr and Skye Stewart of Four Oaks; Alexis O. Massengill and Zack Beasley of Currituck, NC; and eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, and other times at the home.
