Smithfield – DeLois Anita Tarpley Braun, age 98, went peacefully to her heavenly home Tuesday evening, July 27, 2021, surrounded by family. She was born in Wichita, KS, raised her family in Wheaton, IL, retired to Clearwater, FL before moving to Smithfield in 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Russell Karl Braun, and her son, Dale Russell Braun. DeLois loved the Lord with all heart and served him in every aspect of her life. She had a kind soul and never met a stranger. Her goal in life was to live her life serving the Lord and leading others to Christ. Her friends and family referred to her as the Energizer Bunny because she was always on the move doing something or helping someone in need. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Smithfield, where she worked two days a week for many years in the soup kitchen, sewing outfits for children in the mission field, and making Pinecone Christmas trees for various organizations. She will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted on Friday, August 6, 2021, at 4:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Smithfield with the Rev. Lee Colbert officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
DeLois is survived by her children Bruce Braun and wife Barbara of Lynchburg, VA, Wayne Braun of West Chicago, IL, Jaynean Scott and husband Brian of Clayton, and Carmen Drab and husband Stan of Saint Charles, IL as well as 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church to support the ministries she loved.
